Winter Makeup

Hello Everyone,

I have been wearing a glittery eye lately with a berry lip for winter, and I thought I would recreate that look for a blogpost. Spring will be approaching quickly, and that will mean a much more subdued and dewy look, so this is my last chance to showcase a winter one!

Winter makeup is usually a bit heavier with glitter and liner and pops of color on the lips. While I’ve been wearing red a light, I’ve been reaching for deep berry tones lately, which are a fun twist on the classic red for winter. I’ve also been layering many different glitter and shimmer eyeshadows to give a glowing effect around my eyes, especially the inner corners. This goes pretty well with most of the outfits I wear, and since a lot of it is shimmery, it blends easily. Even my lip color was applied with lip balm first, and I blended it with my finger to soften the appearance.

Before I get into it, I want to give a big shoutout to my Anastasia Contour Kit. I use this literally every single day. It warms up my face easily and is super easy to layer colors if you haven’t applied enough. The lighter colors are perfect for setting my face and adding a slight highlight. I actually started my makeup off today by using a light BB cream and concealer, and then set it with the top right power in this palette. The colors I used today in the palette are the two far right ones.

After that, I used the bronzer on the right to fill in my eyebrows with a MAC 266 brush.

From my Banila palette, I used a sparkly pink color which was barely pigments, it was mostly glitter. I used my finger to put this into my inner corner. I find this captures the light beautifully and really shows off the glowing effect.

After that, I used my Lorac Pro palette with the color Champagne which is less glittery and more of a cream shimmer shadow. I put that in my corner too, but blended it further into the middle of my lid and underneath my eye, close to the inner corners. After, I used the gold chunky glitter from my Banila palette and put that all over the rest of my lid and blended it to make it even.

There is a buttery, shimmery brown in the Banila palette that I lightly put on my pinky finger and concentrated under my eyes towards the outsides. This gave a bit more definition so the look was a little bit darker.

I used my Rimmel London liquid eyeliner in black to make wings (and I shockingly did it evenly!) I then used Maybelline’s Falsies mascara only on my top lashes to make them as big as they could be.

I went in with the same bronzer from the Anastasia Contour Kit and concentrated that under my cheekbones. Bronzers really does make all the difference in the world, it sculpts your face and warms up the edges!

I used a Revlon cream blush stick in the color Berry Kiss and blended it in with my fingertips. After that, I used a cream highlighter and focused it on the tops of my cheekbones, but I also dabbed some on the very tip of my nose.

My lip color is actually a gloss by Hikari in the color “Merlot” and I focused it on the centers of my lips and then blended it out with my fingertip. The effect is nice and soft, and you don’t have to worry about it moving around or being ruined because the formula is so light!

Let me know what your favorite winter makeup has been this season, and I can’t wait to see how things will change once the weather warms up!

Now that spring is here (haha) I have been trying to get a more glowy makeup look. This can be hard, since I usually use neutral colors, and highlighting can look a bit extreme. These are a few of the things that I use to get a natural effect. The first is the Anastasia Powder Contour Kit. This has colors for contouring and highlighting, and my favorite is the one in the upper right hand corner. I sweep this under my eyes and more heavily above my cheekbones.

The other product I use is much more affordable. It’s the L’Oreal Powder Glow Illuminator. Since it’s a drugstore highlighter, it’s more chunky with it’s shimmer rather than the buttery texture of the contour kit shades. But it does a great job for noticeable shine. I find this is best for taking selfies, and I use my fingers to dab it above my cheekbones.

What are your favorite highlighting products?

February Favorites

Bee Button – I got this adorable pin while galavanting around Northampton with my friend Emily. She had a matching one, then I bought a bee blouse, and good time was had by all.

Milani Lipsticks (Matte) – Holy cow, these lipsticks are becoming my absolute favorite. They go on easily and aren’t a pain to take off (favorite shade is Matte Passion)

Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events – I am a Very Forceful and Dedicated admirer of Lemony Snicket, so this series was basically all I care about for about six months. I thought it was fantastic, and I binge watched it all and once and then rewatched it again. I’m mostly excited that they are putting so much effort into one of my favorite book series. The casting was impeccable and the acting is excellent. The only criticism I have is that I wish it had that dreary Victorian style that the movie exuded, as it gave off such a dismal mood. But I still loved everything they did with the sets and I am so incredibly ready for the next season.

X-Files – On a much different note, me and my mom have been binge watching X-Files at night. I’m not really sure how this started, but there are so many episodes, so I don’t see it stopping anytime soon. (I want to believe!)

What have you been into this month? I think we are al itching for the weather to warm up so we can go outside, so I’m curious to know what hobbies you’re interested in as well.

Everyday “No Makeup” Makeup

1. Physician’s Formula Tinted Moisturizer

2. MAC Blush in “Trace Gold”

3. Lorac Pro Palette

4. Lush’s Mint Julips Lip Scrub

5. Burt’s Bee’s Lip Balm

These are my favorite beauty items to achieve the “No Makeup” makeup look, and although they are basic, they totally do the job.

Get Ready With Me (For a Picnic)

Hello everyone,

I am seriously enjoying this 60 degree weather because during the day it is the perfect temperature to have a picnic. I’ve seen so many cute picnic ideas and even though mine was just in my backyard with some fruit, it’s fun to treat yourself to something like this. I did some fun makeup this morning, really taking my time with my eyeshadows and eyeliner so I could enjoy it. I did a kind of smokey brown eyeshadow with winged liner and then a pop of red lips. The colors were perfect for an early Autumn picnic outside.

This isn’t going to be a tutorial or anything, I’ll just go through what I used and what products/piece of clothing I wore today!

Here’s my little makeup station. It’s very messy right now and has lots of items here that aren’t beauty related, but they make the table look nice. I started off with dry shampoo because I’m on third day hair and needed a little bit of help with texture.

For skincare I used my daily moisturizer that has SPF, and then the NYX undereye treatment. I spritz my skin with this Cucumber Water face mist by Pearlessence.

I used Physician’s Formula Tinted Moisturizer for light coverage and a dewy finish. For my contour, I used the Anastasia Contour Kit, and for my blush I used MAC’s Trace Gold. My eyeshadow was a shimmery-finish warm brown that I blended and blended until it faded across my lid. Then I used my liquid eyeliner (Line Exact by Covergirl) to make a subtle wing. Lastly, I used a bright red matte lipstick (POP Beauty’s “Cozy Crimson”).

The shirt that I’m wearing is from Target (go Target!) and I wore a simple navy pleated skirt with it. Today was actually the first day that I wore tights! I felt ok outside without a jacket on, and I brought my hat from Target in case there was too much sun. I got these oxford-styled flats at TJMaxx awhile ago on sale. I also brought out that cucumber water again because spritzing it on my face is so refreshing.

And as you can see here, my dog came over to check out what was going on. In doing so, he kind of knocked everything around. It takes a lot of time to set up a picture! Eventually I gave in and let him sit wherever he wanted. He didn’t touch any of the fruit, just tried to eat at my little plants.

I really believe in taking a day to do something different, even if that means going outside for an hour or so and enjoying the afternoon. The days are getting cooler, which I am eternally grateful for, but I still feel like I need to squeeze as many outdoor activities in as I can before we are trembling once we set foot outside. Picnics are a great way to do that. I ate some fruit and drank some water and read a lot of books.

You can see my sunglasses peeking in those pictures, those are from Target as well. You just can’t beat Target.

I think when fall comes around a lot of people think of deep and dark colors for lipstick, and this morning, I was reaching for one. But I wanted something a bit more colorful and bright. The truth is, as much as I’m singing happily as each leaf falls, it’s still sunny and beautiful here, and the afternoons are warm. I think that I’ll try to find a balance between the fall trends that are popular right now and the summery pieces that I’ve been wearing these past few months. I was looking at Scandinavian Autumn fashion, and they have pops of color in with their basic blacks, whites, and grays. That is my inspiration this year.

As I’m typing this, I’m sitting on a sheet, accompanied by my wonderfully rambunctious dog, and a cool breeze is traveling through the trees. I am so happy to be sharing it with you. I’m so happy to be experiencing it at all. This is truly the most magical time of year. I hope you are as in love with it as I am.

Soon, I’m sure I’ll be wearing coats and scarves and berry lipsticks. But for now, let’s celebrate this in-between time. Transitions are strange and beautiful.

How are you doing? Any picnics lately? What did you pack?

Everyday Makeup Look

I’ve been wearing very minimal makeup lately. In fact, most days I don’t wear any makeup at all because of this heat.

But every now and then when I want to do a quick and no-fail makeup look, these are the products I use. It’s important that the products I splurge on are great quality, and then they last me forever. The Lorac Pro palette is absolutely fantastic and never fails to give natural and super pigmented colors. I also use my Mac “Trace Gold” blush on the apples of my cheeks and blend it with my contour.

For my contour, the Anastasia kit has been a life saver. It doesn’t take much to give some shape to your face, and building product is so easy. The highlights included are amazing and I find that the yellow toned one sets my underage concealer perfectly! Depending on what colors I’m using on my face determines what contour shade I use. I tend to use the warmer shades, but I love the cool tone too. This palette is something that I had no idea I needed, and now I can’t live without it.

Even with a simple face of makeup, adding some bronze brings your face to life. I use my “Trace Gold” after I’ve contoured and try to blend downward. It has a gold shimmer it in that looks lovely on the cheekbones. You could wear just that and some mascara and look wonderful. I think less makeup in the summer is the way to go.

Finishing the makeup off with a smear of berry on the lips is pretty much all I need.

What is your current everyday makeup?

Golden Glow | 1940’s Makeup Look

Since I’ve been playing around with my new contour kit, I decided to try out a vintage-inspired makeup look today. I used gold and brown eyeshadows, and I complimented those by using a matte contour and a gold shimmery blush. To top it off, I added a matte red lip, because you can’t have a 40’s look without that!

Face Makeup Used:

-Benefit Porefessional Primer

-Maybelline Fit Me  Foundation (110 Porcelain)

-Rimmel London Skin Tone Adapting Concealer

-Benefit Face Powder

-Anastasia Contour Kit (Light To Medium)

-MAC Blush (Trace Gold)

-Urban Decay Primer Potion

-Banila Co. Lumiere Palette

-Maybelline Gel Pencil

-Covergirl The Super Sizer Mascara

-Milani Lipstick (66 Matte Passion)

I also got this cute headband so long ago from Forever 21 and it was perfect for this look! Bandanas are super on trend right now, so that would also look amazing with makeup like this. If you try this out, send a picture or let me know how it goes! I love vintage fashion and beauty, so this was a lot of fun.

Indulging | Birthday Haul

I finally bought something from Anastasia! I know everyone is obsessed with them, but I never wanted to dish out the cash for their products. Since I got money for my birthday and for graduation, I decided to splurge a little bit!

I got the light to medium contour kit, and I absolutely love it. The packaging is gorgeous and the colors are pigmented and perfect for warming up and shaping your face. I used it today for the first time and it was buildable, which I’m happy about.

Besides some summer colors of nail polish, the only other thing I bought were these Biscoff cookies. These are those delicious cookies you get when you’re flying, and I’ve had them some other places in Europe.

I found these at Ocean State because I just recently bought the Biscoff Cookie Butter that’s a spread that tastes just like these cookies. If it sounds indulgent, trust me, it is. After eating that (I use it on rice cakes) I started looking for the cookie version. These are delicious and they taste great with coffee and tea. If you can get your hands on these, I would buy a few packages!

Basically, this haul consists of:

-Anastasia Contour Kit in Light to Medium

-Sally Hansen Miracle Gels in “Get Juiced” and “So Much Fawn”

-Biscoff Cookies

And that’s it! I thought I’d share this because the contour kit was a pretty big purchase, and I’m also excited about those nail colors. The mauve-colored pink is the one I’ll use next, I love it’s rosy color. Let me know if you’ve used the contour kit and if you have in tips/tricks. I’m getting the hang of it, but I love it so far.

Simple Spring | 5 Minute Makeup Look

Since I’ve moved back home, I’ve been trying my very best to be good to my skin. I actually stopped wearing makeup for about a week to try and clear up my face, and when I am using makeup, I’ve been doing a super quick and simple routine.

The only makeup I’ve been bothering with is a primer, a light layer of foundation, concealer, one shade of eye shadow, eye liner, and a swipe of bronzy blush. I hadn’t worn makeup in a few days before I put this on, and when I finally put on my foundation, I was amazed at how smoothly it applied. As for concealer, I didn’t have to cover much up except under my eyes, which I just applied quickly and then blended with my fingers. If you have extra time, you can apply powder too, but since this was a quick look, I didn’t bother with it.

I like using this bronze blush (Trace Gold by MAC) because it acts as a highlighter as well. I apply it high on my cheeks and make sure to blend to make it look very natural. Because there is a sheen to the color, it makes it look like a subtle highlight on top of the cheeks. This color is also great for spring because it makes you look just a little less pale. I ran it down my neck as well and tried to make it all blend together.

I used the color Hustle from my Naked Palette all over my lid. After packing it on, I took a fluffy brush and really blended so that the gorgeous reddy-brown color looked light on my lids.

I took my skinny eyeliner and did a quick swipe with a slight wing on the ends. It’s a lot easier to work with than a liquid liner and is much easier to fix. I find it takes me much less time!

Working with a more simple makeup routine has really made my mornings more manageable. When you need an idea for a quick makeup look for everyday, this is my favorite go-to. I’m excited to start using some cream blushes for spring, which also seem quick to me. I’ll be sure to tell you how I get on with them.

Everyday Spring Get-Ready Routine

It seems like spring is finally here! With the warmer weather comes a new routine for me, beauty and fashion-wise. I’ve been trying out some new products and love the way they’ve worked for the new season. Some of these things are cosmetics, like the Au Naturale palette that includes a lip color, blusher, and cream eyeshadow. For some reason, when spring comes, I really enjoy cream formulations for everything more, probably because it makes my skin look dewey.

One new product I tried out and loved with the cream blusher in that palette, called “Palermo.” It’s actually quite orange, and I was hesitant with a color like that, and I surprisingly loved it!

As for hair, I’ve been straightening it a lot more, which means I’m straightening it more than once every 3 months. Generally, my hair is pretty hard to straighten because it holds lots of moisture and it’s thick, so I need to blow dry it and straighten it right after showering. I’ve been using this new stay-in conditioner by Davines that’s called “All In One Milk.” It’s actually a spray, which is different from what I’ve used before. I just spray it onto my hair before blow drying and straightening, and it made my hair so silky and shiny that my friends actually said, “What did you use on your hair?!” Not to mention, this stuff smells amazing, and I’m looking into getting the full size.

Since my hair is usually curled, it’s nice to start straightening it more because it feels like a slight change to my style. It’s almost like when Meg Ryan in The Women went through her transformation and started wearing her beautiful hair straight as she tackled all the problems in her life. Only, I’m not getting a divorce, I wasn’t fired by my father, and I don’t have a daughter who hates me (or a daughter in general). I guess we’ll leave that to the cinemas.

Since it’s still kind of chilly (because, New England) I’ve been wearing this khaki-colored military jacket. It’s a great neutral and it’s softer than wearing a leather jacket all the time.

What is your spring beauty routine? I’m curious to know what products your using.
