“She loved the moors…she found in the bleak solitude many and dear delights.”

Hello Everyone,

I write this from a Starbucks where I am drinking a “midnight mint mocha” which is basically a genius drink. The rain has finally stopped, and the weather is beautiful again. I took a few shots the other day that I wanted to share, and now I’m getting around to it.

I am feeling very good about the things happening in my life lately. There is a lot of hard work, but there is also a lot of inspiration. Isn’t it wonderful to feel inspiration after a long period of nothingness?

I hope you are all having a nice long weekend if you are celebrating any holidays. I will be looking through recipes to make a nice fresh dessert for a party we are having tomorrow. I also think a tag sale might be in order soon, as the weather is cooperating, and we have lots of excess stuff. All of my minimal living has been telling me to shed the clutter. What are all of yours plans for the coming summer months? Hopefully some nice vacations!

If you’d like to see what else I’m up to, you can catch up with me on Instagram and Tumblr!

Winter Night-Time Routine

Winter Night-Time Routine

-Turn off electronics

Just do it!

-Warm up

I use a hot water bottle or a heated blanket. This completely relaxes me on a cold winter night.

-Turn on Christmas lights

This is the season of light. I truly believe that. When the sun won’t stay up in the sky as long, it’s great to get into the routine of turning on your (hundreds and hundreds of) Christmas lights.

There is something beautiful about lighting up an interior with little twinkles everywhere. I have lights up year-round, but there’s obviously way more right now.

I got these beautiful LED’s that look wonderful around minimal holiday decor.

-Catch up on TV shows

The nights are cold and the energy gets focused inside of the home. Because of this, sharing stories with families and friends by watching movies and TV shows is comforting and exciting. Some of my favorites right now are The Crown, Parks and Rec, and The Office. The warmth of being by the fire and drinking wine and hot chocolate with people you love is irreplaceable. It’s one of my favorite parts of the season.

I also MIGHT keep watching Pretty Little Liars since I have to recap before the last season.

-Scroll on Tumblr/Pinterest

This is where I break the electronics rule.

-Spend time in front of the fire

I suggest cuddling with a pet.

-Get ready for bed

This involves taking off my makeup and brushing my teeth, cleansing, moisturizing, etc. This can sometimes be the hardest time of the night for me. I often get so tired that I don’t feel like doing anything of these things and would rather just crawl to the bed.

Lately I have been using my Clarisonic to buff off any lasting makeup before bed. I think this is really effective at getting rid of dead skin as well, and I have an abundance of that with the chilly weather. The cleanser I’ve been using is so silky and smooth that my skin feels so fresh after. I follow up with a night cream.

I end all my nights snuggled up with extra blankets. There is a beautiful thing about staying warm in the middle of a freezing night. I just moved my bed next to my window, and I love waking up to beautiful snow on the ground. That tends to motivate me to get some sleep. The wintry morning awaits.

What is your night-time routine?

Essentials to Having a Cozy Winter 🌨

Essentials to Having a Cozy Winter 🌨

1) Scarves

I can tell it’s actually winter when I’m throwing on a scarf. There’s something wonderful about needing a huge blanket of fabric wrapped around your neck to keep you warm.

2) Socks

And I’m not talking just any old socks. I’m talking about cute socks. Go out and get yourself some cute, warm socks to wear with boots or around the house.

3) Winter Boots

I suppose this depends on where you live and what your winters are like, but I live in New England. Winter snow boots are literally an essential if you want to go anywhere after a snowstorm. I have a beautiful pair of Sorel boots that my parents got me for Christmas and they have held up so nicely. I’d say this is one of those items that you want to splurge on. Having a great quality boot for ice and snow is definitely worth it, and Sorel has adorable choices!

4) Sweatpants

After a cold day outside, there is literally nothing cozier than changing into sweatpants. Especially if you have taken a nice hot bath and you want to be as relaxed as possible. I have a really nice pair from Target that are comfortable but also don’t make me look terribly disheveled. Then again, if disheveled sweatpants are the comfiest for you, I say go for it.

5) Tea (morning or night, your choice)

Tea makes everything better, I truly believe that. Also, I believe that waking up early and having a hot cup of tea while the rest of the world is waking up is one of the most therapeutic practices one can do for themselves.

6) Candles

Light them all, light every candle you own and feel extremely cozy (and make sure nothing burns down).

7) Sweaters

Finding the perfect sweater is hard. I buy a lot of them because I want variety of style/color, that kind of thing. But sometimes you just have that one sweater, and it is the sweater of all sweaters and you will put it on any time you need to feel warm.

I recently went to Primark and got the coziest sweater ever (probably). I think it’s technically a cardigan, but it has the perfect “oatmeal” texture. You know what I’m talking about, right? It looks like a sweater your grandmother might wear. For some reason, it is ridiculously in style, and I’m guessing it’s because it is the comfiest thing in the world to wear.

8) Winter Movies

As soon as I admit that it’s Christmas time (so, November 1st) I start planning the movies I want to watch. I feel like it is very important to be watching wintery things to get as much inspiration as possible. The movies need to have snow, they need to have some sort of love story going on, and they need to have cute jackets. In all seriousness, my favorite winter movie to watch is The Holiday. I love all the actors in it and the story really is a classic. Also, the little cottage in Surrey is my all-time dream home, and it will be forever.

Those are all my essentials for not just surviving winter, but actually enjoying it. I think too often people grumble about the weather instead of enjoying the fact that the seasons are changing and it’s a beautiful thing and there are so many cute mittens to be worn.

Spring In The Air (In Boston)

Spring In The Air (In Boston)

So if you didn’t know this, on the first day of spring in Boston, we got a ton of snow. It didn’t really feel like spring, which was disappointing. But you know what always gets me in the mood for it? Spring cleaning.

I picked up the crazy popular book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo (I know I’m embarrassingly late to the game here people) and within a few chapters, I was minimizing the things I actually needed in my dorm. That meant sorting through my closet and deciding what could stay in the limited space I had.

This left me with a lot of basics. And you know what? I’m really happy with that. As the weather gets warmer, I’ll be using my best quality pieces together, most of the time layering (like I did here). In New England, Spring is unpredictable, and you could find yourself without a jacket at 9 a.m. and then clutching a huge scarf as a blanket by 5 p.m.

Shirt- J.Crew

Cardigan- H&M

Jacket- Express

Other Details of the Day

The differences in textures in this picture was very pleasing to me, with the fur and the quilting of my boots.

Boots- Tommy Hilfiger

Watch- Daniel Wellington

Rings- Both handmade

I’ve really been into peach colors and gold lately. I think having Rose-Quartz be Pantone’s Color Of The Year has something to do with it. I’ve been enjoying warm pinks and gold foil. I’ve also been trying to use more wholesome beauty products to get my skin clearer.

Sunglasses- Forever 21 (VERY OLD)

iPhone 6 Case- Rifle Paper & Co.

Hair Clip- Francesca’s

Lotion- Not Soap Radio (Phoenix)

Hair Oil- n4

I hope this might give someone that minimalist inspiration that the book gave me. Cleaning things out and taking a look at your best pieces can do wonders for your mind. I find getting up and getting changed in the morning is so much easier now. I’ll try to keep updated on if I’m staying tidy.
